Specialized Family Services

Season Center is dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youth, including foster, adoptive, and kinship children and families, through comprehensive support, mentorship, and guidance. Our mission is to provide the tools and resources necessary for young people to overcome life's challenges, build resilience, and unlock their full potential.

We offer personalized services designed to support mental well-being, increase stability, and provide necessary resources to allow children and families to thrive.  Our team of experienced professionals work alongside families to establish a comprehensive plan that includes skill-building, therapy, and other supportive services tailored to each family's needs.  Our providers are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where young individuals can thrive, develop confidence, and make positive choices.

We want to help you better understand your child's needs and what natural supports are available to you. We want to provide support and encouragement to kids, parents and families in overcoming challenges. And we want to help you gain the skills and confidence needed to overcome challenges your family may be facing.

Who is eligible?
This program covers the following counties: Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, and Sioux.

Additional eligibility criteria:

  • Child/Youth exposed to trauma and/or at-risk for system involvement
    OR
  • Current foster, adoptive, or kinship youth/family

What does “at-risk” mean?
At-risk refers to youth and adolescents who have a higher probability of experiencing challenges that could hinder their development and future success, including factors such as poverty, family instability, substance use/parental substance use, natural disasters, lack of access to education, mental health challenges, involvement in the juvenile justice or child welfare systems.

What does trauma-informed mean?
We know that trauma experienced by an individual can impact physical, emotional, and mental health, as well as behaviors and engagement in services. Trauma-informed care is an approach, based on knowledge of the impact of trauma, aimed to ensure environments and services are welcoming and engaging for all service recipients.

What evidence-based practices may be used?
Children and their families are provided a safe, therapeutic space to process their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while gaining skills for healthy coping. Backed by scientific evidence and research proving effectiveness, the following evidence-based modalities are utilized within our program.

Permanency Support | Family Peer EBPs:

  • Parents and Children Together (PACT)
  • Seeking Safety
  • Motivational Interviewing

Office-Based Therapy EBPs:

  • Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Theraplay
  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
  • Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Trainings

Our Permanency Support Specialists provide evidence-based services and supports to children and families that focus on emotional regulation, building coping skills, and overcoming adversity to best resolve the challenges that children and families may face.  

Our Family Peer provides lived experience and walks alongside parents to support each family through their individualized journey.
