Toby, our therapy dog, was donated by Toby and Sylvia Shine and Eva Shine of Shine Brothers Corp. Seasons staff were so appreciative, they chose to name him "Toby" in honor of the gift. Toby received basic obedience training locally and when he was one year old, received further obedience and K9 training. Toby is trained to sit, shake, stay, and lay down. His favorite game is fetch and he loves to go running in the open fields. Toby especially loves spending time with children at Autumn's Center.
Jean has over 20 years of experience as a nurse, and has worked in a variety of settings. She worked as a nurse in a nursing home, was clinic manager at Planned Parenthood and was a clinic nurse in Spirit Lake, IA. She enjoys spending time with her family and watching NCAA, NFL, and MLB games.

Prior to joining Seasons in January of 2017, Casey was an Outpatient Therapist in Minnesota working with children, adolescents, couples, and families. She has specialized training in working with trauma, attachment disorders, anxiety and depressive disorders, marriage and family therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and play therapy. In addition to her work as an outpatient therapist, Casey is an Assistant Professor at Buena Vista University teaching in the Mental Health Counseling graduate program.

Work History Jared’s career in substance abuse began working with individuals with opiate addictions at a Methadone treatment center. He quickly realized how much enjoyed helping individuals take control of their lives and arrest their addictions. After completing his Master’s degree he had the opportunity of working with many individuals at a residential co-occurring enhanced treatment center. This is where he truly found his passion, working closely and participating in out of the box activities that can most easily be done at live in facilities. He also has experience working with individuals in drug court and those transitioning out of correctional facilities. He is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) as well as a reciprocal Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICAADC) and is working towards becoming a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW).
Hobbies Jared was born and raised in Idaho and enjoys spending time in the mountains, doing anything in the outdoors from rock climbing to water skiing and all things in between. He is a husband and father of three and enjoys spending time with his family and playing with his children.

Alicia joined Seasons Center in August of 2015 as a Peer Support Specialist. Before starting with Seasons, Alicia worked in the Nursing field for approximately 30 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Nursing Assistant Coordinator, and Mentor. Alicia enjoys spending time with clients and assisting them in their struggles and victories.
Renee Bendlin received her two year degree in Human Services/ Disabilities from ILCC. Renee has two children and enjoys being with her family and friends camping, fishing, and playing games. in 2012 Renee worked as a certified community living coach in an adult waiver home until 2015. Renee joined Seasons Center in August 2015.
Megan received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Dordt College in 2013. She then received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in December of 2015. Megan has experience working with individuals and families. She also has experience working with people with disabilities. Megan interned with Seasons during her Masters program and then joined the Seasons team full time in February of 2016.

Collin has experience working with adults struggling with substance dependence and mental health issues. Collin uses a caring, integrative, client-centered approach in his work with clients. Collin acknowledges the strength and courage it takes to address issues related to one’s mental health. He firmly believes through empathy, non-judgement, and hard work, each and every client can move through their struggles and lead the happy, healthy, and fulfilling life that they want and deserve.
In his free time, Collin enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, being outside and watching sports. Collin’s favorite teams are the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, the Green Bay Packers, and the Chicago Blackhawks; especially if they are winning.
Trevor obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Dordt College, Sioux Center, IA. After graduating in Spring 2013, Trevor joined the Psychological Testing Department at Seasons Center for Behavioral Health. His days are filled with administering and scoring tests and writing reports. Trevor plans to return to school in the future and obtain a PHD in Clinical Psychology.
Barb enjoyed working as a dental hygienist before making a career change and joining the staff at Seasons Center in August of 2014. She loves children, meeting families, and building relationships. Barb and her husband have four children and live on a farm near Fostoria. Her favorite things to do include hanging around with family and friends, biking, swimming and her Bible study.

Prior to joining Seasons in 2017, Krista completed her senior practicum for her Bachelor's degree in Gonubie, East London, South Africa. She worked at an organization named CATCH (Caring, Affirming, and Training for Change). There, she worked with children and women who had experienced severe trauma. She also helped facilitate after school programs for 150+ local children 3 days a week. Krista has also worked as a social service consultant in northwest Iowa nursing home facilities.
Krista was born and raised in Spirit Lake. She is the youngest of three children. She enjoys traveling and learning about other countries and cultures. She studied abroad twice while completing her Bachelor's degree. She spent the summer semester in Northern Ireland studying peace and conflict at Queen's University, and she completed her senior practicum at a non-government organization, CATCH, in Gonubie, Eastern Cape, South Africa through the University of Fort Hare. Krista has also traveled to Egypt, England, France, and Hungary. Krista enjoys being outside, playing with her dog, and spending time with friends and family.

Angela was also chosen to be part of the training team for the State of South Dakota in Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Angela, her husband, and two children moved to Sioux County, IA from Southern California in December of 2001. Since that time, her two children graduated from high school and moved on to work and reside in Arizona; while Angela and her husband, Kevin, continue to live and work in Iowa. Angela enjoys gardening and antiquing in her spare time.
Kassie received her Bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a Spanish emphasis from Northwestern College in 2011. She is interning with Seasons during her Masters program through the University of Iowa School of Social Work and will graduate with her MSW in May 2017. Kassie has experience in working with individuals, families, and groups. As a bilingual therapist, she has extensive experience working with a variety of Spanish-speaking people and cultures. Kassie has past experience working with children, adolescents, and families involved in the juvenile justice and/or child welfare systems. Kassie joined Seasons full time in August 2016, working as a Trauma Therapist.
Dr. Castillo trained at the University of Iowa Psychiatry Department in General Psychiatry and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychiatry.
He worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in a private practice for 11 years before moving on to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he practiced for 10 years in a major health system. Dr. Castillo joined Seasons Center in January 2016.

Marlee received her Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science in 2004 and received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling in 2007 from Asbury Theological Seminary. Following graduation, Marlee worked as a counselor in North Carolina before moving to Iowa in 2011 to be closer to family. She started working at Seasons in 2011 and is based out of the Spencer office.
Before coming to Seasons Center, Alex worked for both Hope Haven and Echo Plus/Hope Haven specifically with adults in community services. She obtained her Bachelors in Arts from Buena Vista University in August of 2016, with a double major in Psychology and Human Services and a minor in Client Centered Services. Outside of work, She enjoys spending time with her family and friends in a variety of activities which include gardening, golfing, cycling, and shopping.

Annie is originally from Northwest Iowa and recently moved back to the area to be closer to family. She has a passion for working with children, adolescents, and their families.
Steve graduated with an AS in substance abuse from Iowa Lakes Community College in 2012. He enrolled at Buena Vista University in 2012 and completed his Bachelor Degree in Human Services. He is currently a grad student at Capella University for mental health counseling.
Experience Steve completed his internship at Synergy Center in 2012 (Jackson Recovery) from there he transitioned into the Cherokee Outpatient Office and ran the Intensive Outpatient Program. Steve also worked closely with the Family Treatment Court Programming in Cherokee County advocating for clients in substance abuse treatment from 2014-2016. His role at Jackson Recovery Centers entailed family prevention, group therapy, individual therapy, and federal therapy programming for the corrections system addressing criminal/addictive thinking. Steve also was the recipient for the Harlan Johnson Memorial Scholarship through Jackson Recovery Centers.
Hobbies Steve was born and raised in Des Moines Iowa. He enjoys spending quality time with his Fiancé’ and three children. Steve also enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, painting, and spending time in the outdoors.

Before joining the Seasons team in 2016, Amber worked as a Family Safety Risk and Permanency Counselor, Youth Counselor, and a Home Based Community Serives Provider. At Seasons, she provides intense in-home family therapy in the Northwest Iowa region.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her nephew, family, and cat, Mufsa, and doing crafts.
Arin Elser received her Bachelor's Degree in Human Services through Buena Vista University. She has worked with families and children since 1999 in a wide variety of services that include within the community, school, home based services, out of home placement services, coordination of care between agencies and now behavioral health intervention services. For the past 14 years Arin has provided support to families and children through the Juvenile Court Speciality Care Coordinator position. This position has allowed Arin to work with at risk adolescents and their families. Arin has found a passion for working closely with adolscents to help teach and guide them at a critical time in their lives. Arin join Seasons team in June 2014.

Following graduation Kate worked in the fields of hospice care and bereavement as well as early childhood home visitation for 20+ years. Kim received her nursing degree from St. Luke's College in 2010 and BSN from Dordt College in 2011. She has a wide variety of experiences from working as a nurse at the Orange City Area Health System hospital for five years in the medical-surgical unity, labor and delivery, and emergency room. Kim obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College in 2014 and became certified and licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Currently she is pursuing a certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Kim joined Seasons Center in July 2015.

Sherri received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Morningside College in Sioux City in 1994. For the past 6 years she has worked in the substance abuse field providing counseling and support for adolescents and adults who struggle with substance abuse and additional issues.

I'm originally from Spring Valley, MN. I like to play outside, go on adventures, knit/crochet a diverse assortment of hats, drink excessive amounts of coffee, throw a variety of dog toys in hopes my dog will retrieve (and return) them, and attempt to master the several impromptu hobbies I seem to pick up regularly.
Andy joined the Seasons team in the Fall of 2016. Prior to Seasons, he did work as a Recovery Counselor at Jackson Recovery, and did work for the Ida County Secondary Road Department. In his free time, Andy enjoys being outdoors, and doing any kind of motorsport.

After graduating in December 2014, Nicki joined the Psychological Testing Department at Seasons Center. Courtnry was born and raised in Nebraska, and has been living and working in the Sioux City area since 2007. Her four children keep her very busy, but in her free time, she enjoys reading, watching Husker and Cowboys football, and spending time with her family.
Jessica received her nursing degree from St. Luke’s College in 2011. Prior to working at Seasons, Jessica was a nurse at Village Northwest Unlimited and served individuals with disabilities in the residential setting. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, baking and reading. Jessica joined Seasons in January 2016.
Robin Kopelman MD, MPH is a one of the leading experts in the state of Iowa in the field of Women’s and Maternal Mental Health. She was the founding psychiatrist and Co-Director for the Women’s Wellness and Counseling at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and provided care to women in eastern Iowa for over a decade. During that time, Dr. Kopelman conducted extensive research in the development of community-oriented maternal mental health and family mental health services, including research on postpartum depression on partners, perinatal depression screening, and attitudes toward treatment of perinatal depression in Title V maternal health clinics. Dr. Kopelman has also worked extensively with the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Maternal, Child & Family Health on public health programs to improve services for mothers and children throughout the state of Iowa. A lifelong resident of Iowa, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Biology from Grinnell College and her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Masters Degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Iowa. She is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry in The University of Iowa College of Medicine. She also completed a semester-long internship at Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault and over 900 hours of service work in a variety of non-profit organizations within the Storm Lake community. Mayra has always had a passion for civic engagement and spent the majority of her college years participating in a variety of service trips, including one in Seattle, Washington where she was able to assist in a men's shelter and a non-profit food bank distributer.

Lisa Matthews, Psy.D, is a licensed clinical psychologist and health service provider in the state of Iowa. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Northwestern College and a Doctor of Psychology degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to joining Seasons in 2014, she gained therapy and assessment experience working with adolescents and adults who were involved in the court system. Specifically, she has worked with pre and post-adjudicated adolescents and their families, as well as adults who were hospitalized on a civil or forensic commitment.
Kay is a long time resident of Northwest Iowa. She received her nursing degree from Iowa Lakes Community College and has over 25 years of nursing experience. Kay comes to Seasons from Lincare, where she was Center Manager for 23 years, specializing in respiratory care and chronic disease management.
Kay enjoys cycling, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Before joining the Seasons team in the fall of 2016, Tricia was a hospice and/or home care social worker for 11 years. She has extensive experience in dealing with grief, death, and dying. She also has experience working with children with severe emotional disturbances, parenting classes, and child development. In her free time, she most enjoys spending time with her family, reading, singing, and hunting.
Brittany received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Buena Vista University in 2011. Upon graduation Brittany worked with individuals, groups, and families struggling with chemical dependency issues. She eventually took a position as social worker in a nursing home setting where she did case management and discharge planning. Brittany is currently obtaining her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and will graduate in May 2017. In her spare time, Brittany enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and photography.
As a Trauma Therapist with Seasons, Brittany serves Buena Vista, Carroll, Calhoun, Crawford, and Sac counties.
LeAnne received her Bachelor's degree at Winona State University. She received her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Des Moines University. She completed her physician assistant certification and is certified through the NCCPA. She is licensed to practice in Iowa and Minnesota. She has worked with adults, adolescents, and children and specializes in psychiatry. She has worked in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She has been employed by Seasons Center since August 2010.

After teaching for 10 years, Melissa decided to go back to school in hopes of working more directly with people struggling with relationships and emotional regulation, and she is especially passionate about working with individuals who have been impacted by trauma. Before joining the Seasons team in the fall of 2016, she worked for Avera Behavioral Health on their inpatient Child and Adolescent Units and as an Emergency Assessment Counselor. She also worked as a Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Counselor, and, combining two of her favorite things, horses and emotional growth/healing, doing Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. She is very excited to work in the Cherokee school district setting as well as the Storm Lake outpatient office.

Janet started with Seasons in 2008. Before joining Seasons, she worked as a Service Coordinator and Program Coordinator at Spectra Health Care. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, the theatre, and doing volunteer work.

Amy enjoys spending time with family and friends. She enjoys activities such as: reading, writing, riding bike, going to the beach/boating, going for walks and spending time outdoors. Amy grew up in Spirit Lake and returned to the area after obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern in 2008. Amy is passionate about working with adolescents and their families. In April of 2016, after working with at-risk students and children in outpatient and school settings in Arkansas, Lynae moved back to Iowa and began her career at Seasons Center. She has experience working with those who have experienced abuse and trauma, fostering and/or adoption, attachment, and other behavioral health needs working with individuals and their families.

Nate has been working in the mental health field since 2007 and has experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

Anne was born and raised in Spencer, IA. She was away for 9 years gaining school and work experience, but returned to Northwest Iowa in the Fall of 2016 to be closer to her family. She enjoys spending time with her cat, Zoey, baking, and traveling. Alaska has been her favorite vacation destination to date.
Jan graduated from the University of Idaho with a BS in Psychology. Following graduation she worked in Seattle in a community health clinic that served homeless, transient and migrant populations. She then spent eleven years overseas in Micronesia, first working as a Peace Corps volunteer, then with the Ministry of Health in their Public Health and Preventive Services. She worked with a number of United Nations agencies as well as U.S. Public Health Services during this time. Upon return to the United States and to Iowa, Jan worked with a domestic abuse and sexual assault program, serving both adult and child victims of domestic and sexual abuse. She changed focus and began working in the substance abuse treatment field in 2007, first working for three years in outpatient treatment services in Storm Lake. Jan then transitioned working in a residential treatment facility and specializing in women’s issues related to substance abuse and trauma. In early 2014, Jan began working with Seasons Center providing outpatient substance abuse treatment services in Storm Lake.

Sarah primarily experience has focused on children with special needs. She has taken the Parents as Teachers Training, and has worked closely with children and their families in both daycare and preschool/early head start locations. Sarah has also worked as a respite provider for families, has done home health care, and has worked as a nurse assistant for over 5 years. Sarah is very familiar with multiple disorders in both children and adults including (But not limited to) PTSD, Autism, Aspergers, and Bipolar/Depression. Sarah joined the Seasons team as an IHH family peer support worker in January of 2017. Dr. Natalie Sandbulte, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and health service provider in the state of Iowa. She has 10 years of clinical experience, with expertise in psychological testing and assessment. Dr. Sandbulte has worked in community mental health clinics, college counseling centers, and was a faculty member in the psychology department at Dordt College for 6 ½ years.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, a Master of Clinical Psychology degree and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree, both from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. Experience Dr. Santacruz is a Family Medicine/Psychiatry Resident at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, providing services via telemedicine at our Storm Lake office. At UIHC, she has had the privilege of serving patients with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Kim has been employed with Seasons Center for Behavioral Health since December 2006. Originally hired as a Support Staff Worker, doing scheduling and intake, she took the position of Family Peer Support Specialist for the Integrated Health Home in August 2014. Kim enjoys working with children and their families to encourage and support them.
Kim also enjoys baking, decorating cookies, and spending time with family.
Angie received her Bachelor's degree in Human Services from Upper Iowa University in 2002. She has a variety of experience working with children, youth, geriatrics and individuals with disabilities. For the past seven years she has worked as a targeted case manager for children and adults with disabilities. Angie joined Seasons Center in December 2014.

Jackie received her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University in Sioux Falls in 2006. She has a variety of experience with both children and adults ranging from structured residential placements to community based settings. For the past several years her focus has been working with the homeless population, both adolescents and adults who suffer from substance use and mental health disorders. She is a Parent Child Interaction Therapy trainer and is trained in specialized attachment interventions for children and families. Nikki currently supervises the therapy department.

Caroline was drawn to pursue a masters in Counseling after living and working in high crime and high poverty areas in New York City and Zimbabwe. She saw first hand, the deleterious and long term effects that trauma has on people. She chose a Masters that incorporated mindfulness as a a key component of the education after practicing on her own for many years and founding it to be profoundly beneficial. Caroline now weaves mindfulness into many of her sessions. In her spare time, she also teaches yoga and leads guided meditations in various venues in the lakes area.

During her Master's program she gained a variety of experience working with individuals, both children and adults, as well as couples and families dealing with an assortment of mental health, relational, and substance abuse issues. Jordon joined Seasons Center in July 2015.

Shante joined Seasons in May 2016. Previously, Shante has worked as a therapist and in-home skills provider for clients of all ages who experience anxiety and depressive symptoms, phase of life issues, and/or negative behaviors. Shante has provided therapy in the schools, co-facilitated the adolescent DBT Group, and currently facilitates the adult DBT group in Spencer. Along with DBT, Shante utilizes EMDR, CBT, and TF-CBT therapy techniques.

Prior to her position at Seasons, Alicia worked at Hope Haven as a Community Lead Coach at a local waiver home. Alicia joined Seasons Center in the spring of 2015 as a Psychometrician and assists with the administration and scoring of psychological tests, as well as, report writing.
